1918 ArtSPACE was first established in Shanghai in 2004 in an old house on Xiangshan Road, close to Fuxing park. A year later, the gallery moved to a warehouse space at No.78 Changping road. In 2009, to be part of the Shanghai art community, 1918 ArtSPACE finally settled down at No. 20 Moganshan Road, part of the M50 art district, occupying a compact, authentic old workshop building.

The vision of 1918ArtSpace is to provide an international platform for the discovery and exploration of new dimensions in contemporary art and culture. 1918Artspace not only co-operates with China-based emerging and established artists, but also with foreign artists as well. 1918Artspace exhibits various forms of contemporary art: painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation and multimedia works etc. The mission of 1918Artspace is to promote talented, undiscovered artists and to introduce innovative art programs. 1918Artspace has participated in many international art fairs and is well received by the international art world. Since 2006, 1918ArtSPACE’s international artist studio program has managed to help many foreign artists to effectively explore and display their artistic talents.

1918ArtSPACE curates 6 different major exhibitions each year and also maintains interesting dialogues on contemporary art issues with the art world and also advises many art lovers on contemporary art collection.

1918Artspace PROJECT, a subsidiary of 1918ArtSPACE, is a multi-dimensional, multi-sensory, and multi-media project that seeks to waken our senses to our immediate environment. It is a collaborative project involving unusual and spontaneous efforts to reach into the realm of the unknown. The collective will be showing in G-SPACE on Huai An Lu, next to the Suzhou River, occupying a 4-floor art ex-printing building in a newly launched art district close to M50, Shanghai. There is also an art lounge functioning as an artist club for informal gathering venue for artists and art lovers in an art-friendly environment.
