Artist Inquiries

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Bamboo ArtSPACE this May in Shanghai. This new art space, dedicated to all types of contemporary art and culture-related events, exhibitions and performances, and located right next to the M50 Art District, will open its doors on May 9th, 2009 hosting the first solo show in Shanghai of New-pop Korean artist Kwon, Ki-Soo.

Kwon, Ki-Soo (b. 1972) is the foremost figure of pop art in Korea, his last visit in Shanghai at MOCA impressed the audience with an 8-meter high balloon of character Dongguri in the main hall. Dongguri is a smiling icon created by Kwon that frequently appears in his work and conveys a feeling of naïve happiness. Kwon’s art is mixing traditional symbols of shanshui (landscape) painting with contemporary iconography and forms.

For his first solo show in Shanghai, Kwon is bringing a brand new series of acrylic paintings, sculptures and installations introducing his favorite character Dongguri. The works will be displayed on the two floors of the 400-sqm space.
